FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 22, 2021
Washington, DC -- The National WIC Association, U.S. Breastfeeding Committee, American Civil Liberties Union, A Better Balance, and Center for WorkLife Law celebrate the House passage of the Providing Urgent Maternal Protections (PUMP) for Nursing Mothers Act
In the face of infectious disease, labor shortages, and economic disruption, our nation cannot afford to continue to force parents to make an impossible choice between breastfeeding – a critical public health intervention – and returning to work – a vital element of economic recovery.
The U.S. House of Representatives will be voting on the PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act, House Bill 3110, this Friday, October 22! The coalition has updated the PUMP Act Partner Toolkit and launched a new PUMP Act Toolkit for Businesses.
If you've ever been in labor or supported a laboring person, you probably remember that moment when the doctor or midwife says, "We are almost there. OK, take a deep breath. I need a big push!" The room stills as everyone prepares to support the BIG PUSH! Now, it's time to PUSH for the PUMP ACT!
The U.S. House of Representatives is preparing to vote on the PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act (H.R. 3110). It is critical that members of the House hear from constituents – individuals, organizations, and businesses in their district – asking them to vote YES for the PUMP Act.
