Let's tell the new Congress to "Make Change" for our nation's families!

Sign our welcome note to ask the new 114th Congress to "make change" for our nation's families!

Big changes are taking place on Capitol Hill as the 114th Congress takes office. That's why it's more important than ever that legislators understand their role in supporting breastfeeding families.

Help us welcome the new Congress, remind them that "Breastfeeding Saves Dollars and Makes Sense," and ask them to help "make change" for our nation's families: sign our welcome note today!

The priorities identified in the welcome note were compiled from YOUR feedback on our December Virtual Town Hall Meeting, and informed by input from our national member and partner organizations and network of breastfeeding coalitions. Now on Thursday, January 22, MomsRising and U.S. Breastfeeding Committee volunteers will deliver the welcome message with your signatures and personal notes to each member of Congress, as part of a very special welcome kit! (Sign up here to join us for the delivery day...)

At the National Breastfeeding Coalitions Conference this past August, Acting Surgeon General RADM Boris Lushniak called on all of us to "go retro," saying: "Let's walk again, let's cook again, let's breastfeed again!" In that spirit, this year's "Welcome Congress" item—a fanny pack "change holder"—is #ThrowbackThursday themed.

Each welcome kit will include the mini fanny pack with a dollar-themed info card and wooden coins tucked inside. Each Congressional Office will also receive a national fact sheet as well as a flyer with specific information about their state's breastfeeding rates and federally funded projects. On the delivery day we'll be taking advantage of the reach of #ThrowbackThursday on social media, posting photos of the fanny packs and encouraging our supporters to reach out to their legislators.

We hope you'll join us for this pun-filled, lighthearted way to get our message noticed, and also, importantly, to help shape the discussion about breastfeeding for the incoming Congress. We have the message, but we need your help to deliver it loud and clear!

Most people now know breastfeeding is great for babies and mothers. That's why all major medical authorities recommend that mothers breastfeed exclusively for six months and continue breastfeeding for at least the first year of a child's life. Yet it's less well known that increased breastfeeding leads to savings in many places, including: fewer doctor's visits, days off work, and avoiding long-term conditions like diabetes and breast cancer. These are benefits that save money for individual families, employers, and even the federal government in its role as our nation's largest employer.

This is the kind of fiscal talk that Washington understands.

Can you quickly sign our welcome note now? It's an easy way to help make sure that prioritizing breastfeeding families is at the top of every legislator's "to-do" list for the 114th Congressional session. The more signatures we collect, the stronger our message will be that expanding support for breastfeeding is a powerful way to improve our nation's finances.

Please forward this email to share this opportunity with friends, family, and colleagues who may want to join you in sharing this good news with Congress.

We're ready for the new 114th Congress, now let's make sure they're ready for us! When you speak, legislators listen: thank you for sharing your voice and support.
